Garland Clark, 80, of Tomah, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, at the Close To Home Assisted Living Facility. He was born Jan. 5, 1926, to Jay and Sylvia (Wallace) Clark. He was united in marriage to Arlene Hickok on Nov. 23, 1944. She preceded him in death Dec. 7, 1994.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Grassman-Sowle-Larsen-Senz American Legion Post #201. He owned and operated Clark and Sons Texaco, Inc. Service Station on Hwy 21. He worked in building maintenance at Fort McCoy until his retirement. Garland was the first Fire Chief in the Town of LaGrange.

He was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed gardening and gathering mushrooms. Spending time with his children and grandchildren was his greatest enjoyment. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by two sons, Mike (Mary) of Warrens and Kelly (Debbie) of Tomah; eight grandchildren, Tom (Stephanie), Thyra (Robert) Sugden, Christopher (Jeryl), Michelle (Robert) Burch, Timothy (Jannette), Bridgette (Dirk) Winfield, Travis (Megan) and Samantha (Michael) Connor; 16 great-grandchildren, Macy, Dani, Paige, Chelsie, Christopher, Nicholas, Lindsey, Jason, Zeth, Star, Cindy, Justin, Taylor, Brooke, Brandon and Elizabeth; two sisters, Bonnie Fish of Westby and Betty (Bob) Suhr of Viroqua; two sisters-in-law, Beulah Clark of Warrens and Ada Brudos of Janesville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arlene; a son, William J. Clark; two brothers, Orville and Verlyn; and two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Fish and Wayne Brudos.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 6, at 11 a.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 310 W. Elizabeth St., Tomah. Pastor William L. Rice will officiate. Burial will be in the LaGrange Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, March 5, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau St., Tomah, and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of the service.
