Edward's death certificate may be seen in ancestry.com. According to that certificate, he was the son of Claus Carlson, born in Sweden, and Anna, maiden name unknown, also born in Sweden.

The date of birth on Edward's gravestone is Mach 16, 1862. His date of birth on his death certificate and in his obituary was given as March 16, 1861. In the 1900 Census for Ottumwa, Iowa, Edward also gave his birth date as March 1861.

Father Of Treasurer Carlson Dies At 80

Edward Carlson Lived Here 62 Years.

Edward Carlson, 80-year-old father of County Treasurer C.F. Carlson, died at Ottumwa hospital today at 9:50 a.m. He had been living at 506 Wabash avenue.

The father was the son of Carl Carlson and was born in Westergottland, Sweden, March 16, 1861. He came to Ottumwa from Sweden in 1879, and for the last 62 years had lived here.

He was a member of the First Lutheran church and a charger member of the Woodmen of the World.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Julia Keefe of Eldon; sons, Charles F. and Oscar E. Carlson of Ottumwa and Harry J. Carlson of Stafford, Kan.; granddaughter, Mrs. Donna Ranson [sic-should be Ransom] of Ottumwa; great-grandson, Charles O. Ranson [sic] great-granddaughter, Roberta Louise Ranson [sic]; sisters Mrs. Amanda Dalquist of Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Augusta Isaason of Denver, Colo., and Hulda in Sweden; brother, Carl in Sweden. A son, Gilbert G. Carlson, died here in 1939.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda, on April 22, 1933; by two daughters, Mrs. Anna Stevens in 1938 and an infant, and son, Gilbert.

The body is at Johnson's funeral chapel.

Services for Edward Carlson of 506 Wabash avenue, w ho died at Ottumwa hospital Friday, will be held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in the First Lutheran church, conducted by the Rev. Malvin H. Lundeen. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery.

The body will remain at Johnson's chapel until Sunday at 12:30 p.m. when it will be taken to the church. The casket will be closed at the beginning of the services.
