She was born in Honea Path, a daughter of the late Lucius (L.L.) Lawton and Katherine Hudgens Wright.
Mrs. Williams was a graduate of Honea Path High School, Furman University, and received a M.A. from Clemson University. She was a respected and beloved teacher for over 40 years. She taught at Parker School District in Greenville, Honea Path High School, Swansea Elementary School, Tavares Elementary School, and retired from Honea Path Middle School.
She was also active in the community as a florist at Long's Flower Shop and served on the Honea Path Cemetery Foundation, the Dogwood Garden Club, Meals on Wheels, Susan B. Komen Fundraisers, and the D.A.R. She was awarded the Citizen of the Year award for 1999 by the Honea Path Civitan Club.
Surviving are two sons, one daughter, one sister, 14 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Donnald.
She was twice married, first to the late Lt. Col. W.C. Williams, Jr, who died in an aircraft accident over Kiska Island, Alaska while stationed on Amchitka Island about 60 miles from Kiska.
