Pauline was born November 26, 1931 to the late Sidney and Katie Stearns in New London, Texas. She joined the Lord on Thursday, February 28, 2013 in Ardmore, Oklahoma with her loving family by her side.
Pauline grew up with her brothers and sisters at their family home north of Wilson. She had a special bond with her siblings and helped raise many of them after the early death of their mother. Their special bond was never broken. Pauline attended Wilson High School. She married Travis Lyle Thompson in 1948. They lived in Wilson and had two children, Darlene and Mike. After Travis's death in 1956, she later married Dave Shores and had their son David. She and Dave recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.
Pauline was extremely active in the Wilson community. She served in many offices at the Wilson Public School's PTA, and she and Dave helped found the Wilson All-Sports Club as well as were founding members of the Wilson Restoration Committee and the Wilson Alumni Association. She worked at Blondell's Flower Shop for several years and then retired from the American National Bank of Wilson with 25 years of service.
If you saw Pauline in town, she always had a smile on her face, and the first thing she would do is show you a picture of her grandchildren and tell you a story about their latest accomplishment. She loved her grandchildren and was always their number one fan. She was also a devout Oklahoma Sooner fan and loved watching Sooner sports. Her family and friends knew they could always stop by her house for a good meal and a cup of coffee.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband Travis Lyle Thompson; her sisters, Geraldine, Jean, Sandy and Billie Sue and her brothers Floyd and Wayne.
Survivors include her husband of the home Dave Shores; her daughter Darlene Thompson Kennedy and husband Wayne of Ardmore; sons Mike Thompson and wife Denise of Velma, and David Shores and wife Jan of Wilson; her grandchildren Dustin Kennedy and wife Julie, Kim Kennedy, Michael Shores and wife Janet, Tyler Shores and Micah Thompson; and great grandchildren Carson Kennedy and Noah Shores, her brothers Kenneth Stearns, Ronnie Stearns and wife Dottie and Larry Don Stearns and wife Glenda, all of Wilson, Glenn Stearns and wife Loretta of Moore, as well as numerous other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be her nephews.
Honorary pallbearers are Jeff Ratcliffe, Chicken Lynch, Johnny Carl Crutchfield and Jack Shores.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home in Wilson.
