1873 - 1914
Father: William Kay
Mother: Emily "Emma" Elizabeth Violet Yates
Stepfather: Peter Boyce
Spouse: Louise Robertson Kay
Tom was born December 6, 1873, in Mona, Utah, to William Kay and Emily "Emma" Elizabeth Violet Yates Kay. His twin sister was Violet Emily; she passed away at age eleven. Although some records show they were born three days apart to the same mother (not likely, although sometimes twin deliveries have been known to be somewhat delayed...but three days apart)?!!! Tom's mother later married Peter Boyce, who raised him and his twin sister, Violet Emily, along with the other children he and his mother had together. It is not known at this time why Tom chose to go by the surname Kay, while his twin sister went by her stepfather's name, Boyce.
Tom married Louise Peterson; they had four children: daughter, Isabell Leslie; son, Delbert Leroy; infant daughter, Violet Emily, and daughter, Myrtle Louise.
Great-granddaughter, Barbara Fox said of Tom, "An interesting tidbit on my great grandfather, Thomas Kay. There's an old saloon in Virginia City, Nevada, that had what they called the crystal bar. On the wall in the saloon hung a framed picture of Tom Kay. He was called 'Whistling Tom Kay' on the plaque under the photo. I guess if your picture is still hanging on the wall of a saloon 100 years later, you were considered a really good, regular customer!!!!"
Thomas William "Tom" Kay passed from this life March 29, 1914, in Pleasant View, Utah.
