Mrs. Katherine Strecker
Katherine Strecker, daughter of George and Marie Elizabeth Reinhardt, was born in Eckheim, Russia, November 20, 1870, and departed this life in Russell the morning of May 10, at 2:30, at the age of 64 years, 5 months and 20 days. She suffered from diabetes for many years.
In her infancy she was baptized. She renewed her baptism vow at her confirmation. She remained a member of the Lutheran faith all her life.
On November 25, 1886 she and her three brothers, Alexander, August and Henry Reinhardt, left for America and arrived at Russell in January 1887, and lived on a farm five miles south of Gorham.
On July 29, 1888 she was united in marriage to George Jacob Dumler, the Rev. A. F. Augustin officiating, based the wedding address on Revelation 21:8 - "And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold the tabernacle of God is with men. And he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people and God himself shall be with them and be their God."
Ten children were born to this union. One daughter, Alma, died in early infancy. Her husband George Jacob Dumler, preceded her in death Dec. 4, 1906. Ten years later, on August 1, she was united in marriage to Jacob Strecker, residing at Milberger. He preceded her in death April 25, 1927.
She leaves to mourn her death nine children: Mrs. Harry Krug, Mrs. Fred Krug, Mrs. Levi Holl, George, Jacob and Robert Dumler, all of Russell, Mrs. Oscar Karst, of Galatia; Herbert Dumler of Ness City; Herman Dumler, Beeler; Benjamin Dumler of Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, Henry Reinhardt, of Russell; August Reinhardt of Bazine; one sister, Mrs. Marie Becker, of Russell; 17 grandchildren, and one great grandchild; many other relatives and friends.
Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock a brief service was conducted at the Strecker home in Russell. Thereupon her mortal remains were conveyed to the Lutheran Church at Milberger of the Missouri Synod. There the pastor of the congregation spoke words of comfort and admonition, basing his German address on Rev. 21:1-3 and the English one on John 5:23, 29. At the close of the service the body was viewed by a great number of mourners. The body was set to rest in the Milberger Cemetery.
