CHAS. PARCELL, 84, DEAD

Had Lived For Fifty-Eight Years in Same Home Place on the Eastern Edge of Edina.

Charles James Parcell, 84 years old, who had lived for fifty-eight years on the same place on the eastern edge of Edina, died Sunday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Annie Porter, with whom he had been staying for a month or more after his health became too bad to live alone at his home. His wife died twenty-one years ago.

Mr. Parcell was a man who accepted life as it came to him, was never known to complain of conditions or to find fault. He was a peaceful, contented man, if ever there was one, and was known as such. He was for many years employed at gathering cream on a route for the old Edina creamery, conducted by J. H. Hill. Later he worked for sixteen years at the Edina elevator for A. Fisher and later for W. T. Wilson. He was also employed at times at the old Edina nursery, conducted by Henry Dixson. By careful saving and his efforts on his small acreage at home he was able to rear his family and have sufficient to supply life's needs.

He was born in Ohio Sept. 12, 1857, and came with his parents, Henry and Edith Clough Parcell, to near Hedge City when a small boy. There he attended Coe school and grew to young manhood.

He was married to Mary Louise Boice Feb. 29, 1880, at the old Barnhill school house. They lived afterward on the old Charles Taylor farm, where he was employed as a farm hand, and it was there in a log cabin that their first child and daughter, Florence, now Mrs. John Kelley, was born. Later another daughter, Annie, now Mrs. Annie Porter was born, and also a son, E. R. Parcell. All the children live in Edina. There are five living grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Parcell was the last of a family of four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Hudson Funeral Home, and burial was in Linville cemetery. Services were by the Rev. S. E. Botsford.

Those from a distance attending the funeral were: Mrs. Kate Magruder and son, Leslie Shubert, of Kirksville; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Porter and James Porter of Brookfield, Mo.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Heron and three children, Unionville; Mr. and Mrs. James Parcell, LaGrange; John B. Kelley, Fort Leonard Wood; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Porter, Branson, Mo.; Mrs. J. H. Brown of Shelbyville and her daughter, Erlene, of Columbia; Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Wharton and daughter and son of Leonard.
