She was the daughter of Gardner Tucker and Mary Church, who were both from Rhode Island. Like her husband John Canon, Dorcas Tucker was a descendant of Mayflower passenger Richard Warren (Dorcas8 Tucker, Mary7 Church, Charles6 Church, Caleb5 Church, Isaac4 Church, Caleb3 Church, Elizabeth2 Warren, Richard1 Warren). Her parents moved from Charlestown in Washington County, Rhode Island to Tolland, Hampden, Massachusetts sometime after the 1810 census (when they were enumerated in Charlestown, RI) and before 1813 (when Dorcas was born in Tolland). At the time of Dorcas' marriage to John Canon, the Tucker family was living in Colebrook, Litchfield, Connecticut.
