Severin Johnson, 69, Cedar Rapids, former Estherville resident and father of
Bernard Johnson of this city, died Friday [May 1, 1964] after a brief illness.
Mr. Johnson was employed for many years here by the Rock Island Railroad as a
car repairman and he and Mrs. Johnson moved to Cedar Rapids about 20 years ago
where he continued in the same work for the railroad until his retirement 20
years ago.
He was born Feb. 16, 1895 in Norway and came to this country and settled in
Emmet County at the age of 18 years.
On May 30, 1923, he was united in marriage to Palma C. Peterson here in
Estherville.
Mr. Johnson is a veteran of World War I and was a member of the American Legion
and of the B.A.R.E., a railroad organization.
He was a member of the Cedar Rapids San Stephens Lutheran Church.
Surviving his death are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Irene) Boardman, of
Marion; his son, Bernard of Estherville; and six grandchildren. Mr. Johnson was
the last surviving member of his family.
There is to be a service for Mr. Johnson at San Stephens Church in Cedar Rapids
Monday at 10:30 a.m. The body will then be brought to the Fuhrman Funeral Home
where friends may call Monday evening and until time of services on Tuesday at 2
p.m. The Tuesday service will be at the Fuhrman Funeral Home, the Rev. Roy M.
Hendrickson officiating. Burial will be in the Estherville Lutheran Cemetery.
