Mrs. E.A. Sanders, 62, well known local florist, died at the family home just off Tyler street at 4:30 Monday morning. Mrs. Sanders had been ill since last November when she suffered a severe heart attack, although she had shown some improvement lately. Her death followed that of her husband by less than two months. Mr. Sanders died on May 16th of this year.
Funeral services were held from the First Baptist Church at 4:00 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Rev. M.L. Fuller, Baptist pastor, was in charge of the services and Carroll & Lehr had charge of the burial which was at the city cemetery.
Pallbearers were C.A. Richardson, Perry Blythe of Kemp, P.C. Perry, Gaston Wood, Walter Dean, J.C. Newbill, Dean Holiman of Brownsboro, Bud Morrison, W.A. Walker and R.C. Truitt.
Surviving are three sons, E.A. Sanders Jr. of Athens; J.T. Sanders of Houston and W.H. Sanders of Athens; two daughters, Mrs. N.E. Blythe of Kitery, Maine and Mrs. J.P. Hodge, Chatfield, Texas. Two grandchildren, J.P. Hodge Jr. of Chatfield and Ed Sanders Blythe of Kitery, Maine also survive. A brother, Joe Hocutt of Norfolk, Virginia also survives. Mrs. Blythe, who was here just a few weeks ago, is expected to arrive from Maine on Tuesday morning.
Mrs. Sanders was born in Rocky Point, N.C. April 16th, 1877. Her maiden name was Miss Blanch Hocutt. She and Mr. Sanders were married in Graham, N.C. on March 3rd, 1898. They came to Texas in 1907, first settling at Corsicana and later moving to Hillsboro and thence to Athens. Mr. and Mrs. Sanders established the first exclusively florist business in Athens and had conducted it for many years.
Mrs. Sanders was a staunch member of the Baptist Church and both she and Mr. Sanders contributed much of their time and means to that denomination.
