James Edward Jones, 87, died this morning in a local hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Jones was a well known Waycrossan and was affectionately called "Uncle Ed" by his friends. He was a member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters. Mrs. J. H. Underwood, Sr., Waycross, and Mrs. E. E. Chandler, Miami, Fla. Three sons, the Rev. F.S. Jones, Sr., Waycross. J.C. Jones, Baltimore, Md., and the Rev. J. Omer Jones, Atlanta; and three brothers, J.H. Jones, Belle Glade, Fla., N.C. Jones and T.W. Jones, both of New Smyrna, Fla.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11 o'clock at the Mount Pleasant Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hinson Funeral Parlor is in charge of arrangements.
