The Hutchinson News, Thursday, March 19, 1970, page 18. Obituary: Mrs. Henry J. Astle HAVEN-- Mrs. Edith L. Astle, a Reno County pioneer, died Wednesday at Haven at the age of 97. She was born Aug. 20, 1873 at Rochestor, N.Y., and came to Kansas with her parents at the age of five.
She lived on a farm north of Yoder until she was married to Henry J. Astle March 28, 1894 at Haven. She lived briefly in Hutchinson and in Oklahoma, but most of her life was spent in the Haven community.
Her husband died Feb. 18, 1918 and a son, H. Grant, died November 1963.
Survivors include a son, Homer, Haven; daughters Mrs. Florence Popp, Haven; Mrs. Alice Stagg, Wichita; sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Calder, Medford, Okla.; Mrs. Ruby Biby, Ponca City, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the church; Rev. Carl Gordon. Burial in the Laurel Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday evening at the Cantwell Chapel at Haven.
