Hutchinson Newspaper Article: HARRY ASTLE DIED TODAY. Second County Commissioner to Die Within a Month. PRACTICALLY LIVED HIS LIFE Down in Haven Township Where He Was Deeply Respected by All. Feb. 8, 1918. For the second time within a month's time death has taken another member of the board of county commissioners. This morning at 8:10, Harry Astle, a member from the east district passed away at his home in Haven, after an illness of several months. Joseph Ball having died on Jan. 17th.
Harry Astle (although not born in Kansas could almost put his claim to eligibility as a native son, for he was only two months old when his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Astle came to Reno county from Alton, Illinois, and settled near Haven where the family has made its home ever since.
WAS OF ENGLISH FAMILY. The Astle family came of English stock, the grandfather of Harry Astle, Richard Astle, bringing his family to America in 1852 from Derbyshire, England, where he had engaged in market gardening. With the younger members of his family he first settled in Illinois, later all came to Reno county where the father and his sons settled on adjoining farms near Haven and helped in the building up of that prosperous community. William Astle, father of Harry Astle died in 1916, a year after the death of his wife.
