DAVE CARLTON DIES AT LOUISVILLE, KY.

David S. Carleton, 56, former Elwood citizen, who for a number of years has been a resident of Louisville, Ky., died in a hospital at that place last night at 10 o'clock, following an emergency operation, according to messages received here this morning.

Dave Carleton was the son of the late James W. Carleton and grew up in this city. For a number of years he was engaged in the grocery business here during which period he was elected recorder of Madison county. he was also at one time a member of the Elwood board of police commissioners.

He was a member of the Elwood Masonic lodge and chapter and the Elwood lodge of Elks, and affiliated with the Scottish Rite and Shrine at Indianapolis. Secretaries of these fraternities were informed of his death.

Mr. Carleton is survived by the widow and six children, residing at Louisville. A sister, Mrs. Mark Nicholson, lives at Tipton, and the first word of the death was received from her by James W. Harris this morning. Later a telegram to Edgar M. Clark requested that lodge secretaries be notified.

Funeral services will be conducted at Louisville Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock and the burial will take place there.
