A southern Christian lady, beloved wife, devoted mother to 4 daughters, a sweet grandmother, and my aunt. Remembering her homemade biscuits and cakes (orange slice cake), making peach jelly, sewing doll clothes, my Christmas gift at age 8 of little cobalt blue pocketbook, taking us to Vacation Bible School, and always being there for me.

She was a cook at Dallas County (AL) High School for many years. Uncle Perk and Aunt Becky lived in a huge old house with a wide hall down the middle of it, fireplaces in each room, a butter churn in the kitchen, and an open well since no running water in the house until after 1965. The front porch ran across the entire front of the house and half down one side...and there was a big swing on it. There was a barn with a cow, geese, chickens and sometimes a pig or two. It was a wonderful place to visit for a little girl.

Her favorite hymn:
Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"
