Martha was born near Hopeville, IA. and the daughter of Seaton Ray and Clementine (Dodd) Taylor. She came with her mother and family to Nebraska in 1888. She married William Webb in 1887 at Chariton, Iowa, by the Reverend Dodson. To this union several children were born, two sons and five daughters. One daughter died in infancy.

In 1888 the Webbs left Creston, Iowa and traveled for eighteen days by mule team. The Webbs were among the first pioneers to settle in Wescott, NE. in 1888. After five years in Wescott, they moved to a claim near Comstock, NE. In 1894, they returned to Iowa, where they remained until 1897, at which time they returned to Nebraska, settling in Valley Co., where they remained until their deaths.

Irene was known for her kindness and generosity. She was also known for her beautiful crochet work. Her favorite quotation was; "The Lord will take care of all those who believe".
