_____

Oil City Derrick, Tuesday, Nov 2 1913:

Franklin, Nov. 1 - Alexander Hamilton McDowell died at 6 am today after an illness of several weeks, during which time his condition grew gradually serious. He was born February 24, 1855.

At first his illness seemed to be only a slight disposition, but two weeks ago there was a total collapse. He rallied for a few days and there was an expectation of his recovery. On Sunday, however, his condition took a turn for the worse, and this morning he passed peacefully away. When he was 20 years old, he became associated in the insurance business with George R. Fry and, and until the time of his death, was a member of the firm of George R. Fry & Co. He was also a director of the Franklin Trust Co. From his boyhood he was a member of St. John's church. For many years he was a vestryman and for 15 years was treasurer of the parish. Mr. McDowell stood for all that was good in the community.

On November 25, 1895, he married Miss May Cunningham of Grove City, who survives, with one daughter and three sons, Mrs. F. W. Martin of New York; Kenneth, Ralph and Richard McDowell; and three brothers, William and Charles McDowell of Franklin, and Robert McDowell of Cleveland.
