Daughter of Alexander and Anna Moffitt McDowell, she was married, and invalid, lived at 910 Elk St, Franklin, died there of acute indigestion and a cerebral hemorrhage, per death certificate 47592, whose informant was A. H. McDowell of Franklin.

Per 1900 census, she had been married 15 years, lived with her brother and his family, with no husband listed. The mark in the marital status column could be M or W.

The Oil City Derrick, Monday, May 9 1910:
Franklin, May 8 -- Mrs. Eleanor Matthews died early Saturday morning in the home of her brother, A. H. McDowell, death due to apoplexy. The deceased was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander McDowell and born and reared in Franklin. In 1885 she was married to Thomas Matthews. One son, James Matthews of Pittsburg survives. One sister and three brothers survive, as follows: Mrs. George B. Fry, W. P. and A. H. McDowell of Franklin, C. T. McDowell of Sandycreek township, and R. R. McDowell of Cleveland. The deceased was a member of St. John's church. Services will be held at the late residence Monday afternoon.
