Franklin, Aug. 26 -- Thomas M. McDowell, 53, of 1040 Chestnut Street, First Ward, died from the effects of carbolic acid taken with suicidal intent. He was a son of Alexander McDowell, grandson of Colonel Alexander McDowell.
He was well known, a respected citizen, a man of exemplary life and unimpeachable record, in vigorous physical health, an industrious man who followed the occupation of teaming, and enjoyed the confidence and respect of all the community. It is said that lately he had been worked over the mental condition of his son, Harry, who was taken to Warren State Hospital several months ago for treatment. He was a member of one of Franklin's oldest families. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
Surviving are his mother; wife; five children, Harry Y., Alfred R., Roscoe R., Emma E., and Anna M. McDowell; brothers and sisters, Alexander H. and William P. of Franklin, Robert R. of Cleveland, Charles T. of Bully Hill, Mrs. George B. Fry, Mrs. Joseph A. Weikal, and Mrs. Ella Matthews of Franklin.
Services will be at the home at 2 pm Wednesday.
