Ida "Irene" Raykie Racketa, Hermitage, passed away peacefully at 6:13 p.m. Tuesday (9-24-13) in her home, surrounded by her family and friends. She was 80.

Irene was born Sept. 28, 1932, in Sharon, one of eight children born to Charles and Elizabeth (Nemeth) Raykie.

She graduated from Sharon High School in 1951.

As a young adult, Irene worked in the lab at what is now Sharon Regional Health System.

In 1954, she married Edwin Racketa Sr.

During their married life, they raised four children together.

Irene worked for General Motors, Packard Electric Division, from 1969 to her retirement in 1993.

Irene enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her lifelong friends, Norma Koss, Ruth Buckley, and the late Vivian Pisegna.

She played an important part in the raising of two of her grandchildren, Kara and Kyle.

Family meant the world to our Mom.

Mom LOVED working in the yard, flower gardens, bowling, and working jigsaw puzzles.

She also enjoyed taking walks at Buhl Farm park and going to the summer concerts there.

She had previously volunteered at the Prince of Peace Center, Farrell.

Irene was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Sharon, where she previously had served as a deacon.

Besides her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Racketa Sr. on July 1, 2012.

She was also preceded in death by her five sisters: Mary Ishley, Margaret Klapach, Rose Gladysz, Helen Perfilio and Elizabeth Raykie; and by her two brothers, Joe and Jim Raykie.

A special uncle, Martin Dilk, also preceded her in death.
