William Leroy Baker, 37, of Carmichaels RD (Stringtown)was killed at 1PM yesterday (09/15/52) while working in the Buckeye Coal Company mine at Nemacolin. Mr Baker was working as a helper on a loading machine when he was struck by the boom and crushed between the machine and a mine car. He suffered a crushed pelvis and died while being removed from the mine. Born Dec 21, 1914, at Palmer, Fayette County, he was a son of the late Robert David and Agnes Guesman Baker, and spent most of his life in the Carmichaels community. Besides his wife, Mary Murphy Baker, he leaves two chidren, Loretta Jean and Leroy Richard, both at home; one brother, David Baker of
Pittsburgh, and a sister, Blanche, of Isabelle. He was a member of he Carmichaels Lodge, Loyal Order of Moose and of the Nemacolin UMW Local.
Funeral arrangements, in charge of the Michael Lucas Funeral Home in Carmichaels. Friends will be received at the Emmett Nicholson home in Stringtown, where funeral services will be held at 2 PM Thursday, Sept 18 with the Rev Warren G McCready officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Point Cemetery.
