Delbert "Deb" Mills
1926 - 2012
VETERAN

Delbert Mills, also known as "Deb," passed away Sunday, September 2, 2012, surrounded by family at his daughter's home in Payson, Utah. He was born February 6, 1926, in Victor, Utah, the youngest of nine children to David James and Bertha Pearl Wells Mills. His mother died in childbirth so he was raised by his grandparents, Thomas and Emily Wells in Vineyard, Utah.

He graduated from Lincoln High School in Orem. Following high school, he joined the military and served in the United States Air Force during World War II. Upon leaving the military, he married his high school sweetheart, Lois Young, in the Salt Lake Temple on September 4, 1946. They lived in Vineyard and Orem, Utah, for more than 50 years. During this time, he worked in the open-hearth at Geneva Steel Plant for 38 years.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Delbert served in many church callings. One of his favorite callings was as a temple worker in the Provo Utah Temple. He had many good friends and cherished them all.

Deb had a great passion for sports and pitched on many fast-pitched softball teams during the '40s and '50s. He especially loved golf and performed in competitive events. He was an avid hunter well into his 60s and loved to fly-fish the Yellowstone area and Strawberry Reservoir. Shooting sporting clays was also one of his favorite activities and he constantly beat his sons and sons-in-law at this sport well into his 80s.

Deb spent many summers at Star Valley Ranch sharing his love of golf with his children and grandchildren by teaching them to play. He was also a gun collector, knife maker and loved to read. Those who knew him best knew he had a contagious zeal for life. He loved his family and friends and had a laugh that was infectious to those around him.

Deb is survived by his wife Lois Young Mills and two sisters: Wilma Hammerschmidt and Deloris Marvidikis. Children: Pat (Ron) Pope, American Fork, Utah, Tom (Gayle) Mills, Ocoee, Florida, Jim (Jill) Mills, Redondo Beach, California, Deb (Vern) Hiatt, Payson, Utah. 12 Grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2012, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home (646 East 800 North, Orem). Graveside Services will be held Thursday, September 6, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Orem City Cemetery, 1520 North 800 East, Orem.

The Mills Family would like express our thanks and love to all those who have helped with Dad's Care, including the Saint George Dialysis Center and Dr. Madsen.
