ATCHISON--Sister Cleta Haug, 72, OSB, died Sunday, July 17, 1988, in a Kansas City, Mo. hospital.
Sister Cleta was an educator more than 50 years. Elementary schools where she taught include St. Benedict's in Kansas City, Kan. from 1935 to 1939; Portsmouth, Iowa, 1939 to 1947; Wamego 1947 to 1952; Panama, Iowa, 1952 to 1954; Blaine, 1954-1955; and Sts. Peter & Paul at Seneca, 1959-1961.
She taught at Lillis High School at KcMo. from 1961 to 1963; and was both principal and instructor at St. Joseph's High School in Salisbury, Mo. from 1963 to 1971. She also taught at LeBlond High School in St. Joseph, Mo. from 1971 to 1979. She taught at the Academy of Mt. St. Scholastica in Atchison from 1979 until she retired in 1987.
She was born April 19, 1916, at Kelly, the daughter of Frank and Mary Strathman Haug. She joined the Benedictine sisters in 1933 and professed her vows of religion in 1935. She received a bachelor's degree from Mt. St. Scholastica College and a master' degree in education from St. Louis, Mo. University.
Survivors include five sisters, Sister Laura Haug, Mt. St. Scholastica; Veronicka Macke, Yakima, Wash.; Cleta Weitharn, Clay Center, and Margaret Buessing and Rosella Kohake, both of Baileyville, and a brother, Robert Haug, Baileyville.
Mass of Christian Burial was at Mt. St. Scholastica Chapel and buried was in Mt. St. Scholastica Cemetery.
