Musician. Born Víctor Guillermo Toro, he was one of Puerto Rico's most noted guitarist known internationally as, "The King of the Cuatro". Over the coarse of his 60-year career, he performed on hundreds of Latin albums and released over 20 solo albums on such major record labels as Island Records, Fania Records and Polygram. Some of his most popular records included "Asalto Navideño" (1972), "Funky Jibaro" (1988), "Gracias" (1990), "Romantico" (1999) and "Musica del Mundo Entero" (2000). During the 1960s and 1970s, he toured the world with the Fania All-Stars, plus hosted the "Yomo Toro Show" which aired on Channel 41 in New York and Canada. In addition, he performed at the Palladium New York Nightclub, El Teatro Puerto Rico in the Bronx, played the theme song to Woody Allen's film Bananas (1971) and was featured in the television production about Afro-Cuban music titled "La Epoca" (2008). Toro also recorded with such major salsa artists as Cuban legend Arsenio Rodríguez, Alfonso "El Panameño" Joseph, Miguel Poventud, Willie Colón and Héctor Lavoe. He died of kidney failure at age 78.
