Mrs. Felker was born November 25, 1912 in Ft. Branch, Indiana. For over 20 years beginning in 1943, Mrs. Felker and her now deceased husband, William Felker, farmed their property on Millersburg Road, McCutchanville, Indiana. She later moved to Evansville and then to Lebanon, Indiana where she worked for 10 years at the Indiana Methodist Children's Home before moving to Centerville, Indiana.
She lived in Centerville a number of years before moving to Richmond, Indiana where she was a resident of Inter-Faith Apartments. While in the Evansville area, Mrs. Felker was very active in Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, White Shrine and was Mother Advisor of the Rainbow Girls. She also was a 4-H leader for over 10 years. She was a member of McCutchanville Methodist Church and later a member of Centerville United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church of Frostproof.
A family graveside memorial service will be scheduled in Evansville, Indiana this summer. Memorials may be sent to Indiana United Methodist Children's Home, Inc., P.O. Box 747, Lebanon, Indiana 46052-0747.
Note: "Mom Felker" was the most beloved housemother at IUMCH. She earned the respect of even the most hardened girls in her care. Even though it is now forty years later, I still can picture her bustling through the dorm with her little pet schnauzer happily trotting along beside her. Her excellent cooking, sincere caring and a wish for a better life for the girls changed the dorm into a home on the days when she in charge. She would "brook no nonsense" and was firm in her adherence to the rules, yet was fair. She provided guidance, not criticism, and her warm smile was genuine when she offered praise. Mrs. Felker was a true lady and her memory will always burn brightly in the minds and hearts of those who loved her.
