August married Clementine Nunkesser, on August 27, 1941, in Paderborn, Germany.
In 1953, August and Clementine immigrated with their two sons to the United States to provide a better life for the family than was possible in post-World War II Germany. August and the rest of the family were proud to become citizens of the United States.
August was a 22 year employee of Smith Oil Company until his retirement in 1977.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Silver Shamrocks and the YMCA Retired Men's Club.
August and Clementine resided in Rockford, Ill. for 37 years until his passing in 1990.
Survivors include his beloved wife Clementine Rokus, two sons, Josef (Diane) Rokus of Sturbridge, Mass. and Hans (Kathy) Rokus of Woodstock, Ill.; Three Grandchildren, Greg, Mary and Brian; One Sister, Helen Rohde of Germany; Numerous nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers.
