1)Enlisted as soldier at the outbreak of the Revolutionary War. Served a little more than 4 yrs. Present at the battles of White Plains, Trenton, Brandywine, Germantown and Monmouth. Enl fr Little York, Pa. Br Little York, Pa., about 1757. Parents: John Sowers II, mother unknown. Mar Mary Anna Kramer after the close of the Revolutionary War. Children: Mary Ann (Sowers) Davis, John Sowers IV, Moses Sowers, Daniel Sowers, James Sowers. D Jul 23, 1820, Monroeville, O., Bur Riverside Cem, Ridgefield Twp, Monroeville, Oh, in Sowers family lot. He donated the land for this cemetery. MI "John Sowers died Jul 23, 1820, aged 63 yrs." GM Marble headstone erected by this family. Also bronze marker and flag holder by G.A.R. and bronze D.A.R, marker by chapter there through Amanda Skilton. After the close of the Revolutionary War he settled near Gwinn's Mills, 18 miles fr Baltimore, Md. 3)Little York was a name often used in the early years for the City of York in York County. Supposedly this was to differentiate between York PA and New York City.
