After his Army time was up, he returned to Ohio and his postal job. He and my mom had four daughters, then I showed up and I guess they decided that was enough.
My dad eventually worked 'on the window' at the Troy post office-I remember he used to go in to work at 4:30am each day. Then for the last seven years of his career, he worked as a rural route carrier which he really enjoyed. His final day of work was the last day of 1977, less than a month before the unforgettable blizzard of 1978 which paralyzed the area. During his retirement, he enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren and he and my mom were able to go places and see people as much as possible.
Happily, he had a number of years of good health while retired but in 1992 he suffered a debilitating stroke from which he never fully recovered.
Needless to say, I really miss my dad.
