In the 1850 U.S. Census, Jane was 23 years old.

Jane married Lt. Col. John McClellan (1805 - 1 Sept 1854) on 17 Sept 1842 in Washington, DC.

John was born in Greencastle, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, to Dr. John McClellan and Elenor Bell (McCulloh) McClellan. Dr. McClellan is #30062890 and Elenor is #65246081.

John was a graduate of West Point in the Class of 1826. He served during the Mexican War in the Corps of Topographical Engineers. He participated in the siege of Veracruz, the battles of Cerro Gordo and Churubusco and the assault on Mexico City. For his distinguished service he won brevets to major and lieutenant colonel. After the war he surveyed the border between Mexico and the United States.

John had possibly [1st] married Georgiana A. (Taylor) McClellan on 26 Nov 1832 in Norfolk, Virginia, as Georgianna McClellan (born c.1835) was living with John and Jane in 1850 U.S. Census. She was born in Virginia.

In the 1850 U.S. Census, John and Jane were living in the next household from her widowed mother, Caroline, in Washington, DC, and John was a "Col. Topo. Engineer."

John died of Cholera in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee, where he was in charge of river improvements.
