US Continental Congressman. Born in Pelham Manor, New York, he graduated from King’s College, in 1770; studied law, was admitted to the bar and practiced law in New York City. During the Revolutionary War, he served as a Lieutenant in the New York Volunteers in 1776 and was a deputy judge advocate for the Continental Army, in 1777. After the war, he was a member of the New York State Assembly (1779-81, 1784-86), Judge Advocate General US Army, (1781-83), a member of General Washington’s staff at the evacuation of the City of New York in 1783 and a regent of the University of the State of New York, (1784-87). In 1788, he was elected a member of the Continental Congress served until 1789 and also was surrogate of Westchester County, New York until 1800. He died at age 57 in Pelham Manor, New York.
