James Irby was the son of Daniel Hudson Irby and Sarah Angelina Wallace. He married Sarah Jane (Sallie) Deens July 21, 1878 at Sipe Springs, Comanche County, Texas. He taught school, served as Justice of the Peace and County Commission in Eastland County. He and his wife were founding members of the Methodist Church in Rising Star.
