Served in the 153rd Regiment, Ohio Infantry (National Guard) at Camp Dennison as Captain of the Milford Guard during the Civil War.
Though he was born with the name Francis (named for his grandfather,Francis McCormick) he wasn't terribly fond of the name.He went by Frank or FM Gatch. Married to Selina Barber.
