US Congressman. He represented the 12th Congressional district of Illinois as a Democrat from 1933 to 1943, serving five terms. He was born in Belleville, Illinois, and attended the Western Military Academy in Alton, Illinois and the University of Illinois at Urbana. In 1910, he graduated from Washington University in Saint Louis, Missouri, and worked for the Morris and Company packers in East Saint Louis, Illinois, from 1913 until 1928. He served in Saint Clair County, Illinois public offices, first as the assistant recorder of deeds from 1928 to 1930 and as the county treasurer from 1930 to 1932. In November 1932, he was elected to the US Congress, serving until January 3, 1943. After his public service, he was a member of the board of directors of Griesediech-Western Brewery Company in Belleville Illinois until his death. He died in Saint Louis, Missouri.
