Jefferson D. Way of Rock Creek died at St. Margaret's hospital at Kansas City, Sunday, January 16, 1910, where he went two weeks ago to be operated on. He was suffering from abdominal rupture.
About two years ago he was operated upon for appendicitis and had about recovered when while he was plowing last spring the handle kicked back causing a small rupture. It was this that he desired removed and death resulted. He had other operations for kidney stones and piles and was feeling all right except for the small rupture.
Obituary
Jefferson D. Way, was born in Geary county, Kansas, May 23, 1860, and died at Kansas City, Kansas, at the hospital January 16, 1910, age 49 years, 7 months and 20 days. He was married to Rosa May Pettit, March 4, 1886. To this union five children were born, three boys and two girls. One son, William and two daughters, Pearl and Mable survive him, two sons having died in infancy. His wife died January 23, 1895, and he was married to Mrs. Nellie James, October 3, 1902, and was divorced from her March 10th 1909.
The funeral services were conducted from the United Brethren church at Rock Creek Tuesday, January 18th by Rev. F.M. Testerman in the presence of a very large congregation and interment was at the Valley Falls cemetery.
He had lived in this community for more than thirty years, and a large circle of friends and neighbors mourn his untimely death.
