Early Wednesday morning, December 18, 2002, Mrs. Sarah Price, 86, peacefully answered God's call to come home. Mrs. Price, a homemaker, was born October 27, 1916 in Gadsden, SC. She was the daughter of the late Esther Sumpter and Henry Sumpter. She attended the public schools of Gadsden County. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized at an early age. Additionally, she was blessed to be born in a very close and loving family with a heritage of faith.

She was preceded in death by five of her brothers and sisters: Robert Sumpter, Johnnie Sumpter, Henry Sumpter, Eliza Lee and Lillie Harrington. Mrs Price lived a long, productive, and joyful life. Married to the late Wesley Price, he preceded her in death on August 6, 1961. Mother delighted in providing a wonderful home life for her family, and enjoyed traveling as well. She was an excellent cook and a great flower gardner and happily shared them with neighbors. Mother had a special gift of regularly visiting sick people in their homes and caring for them. Her beautiful smile was a delight to behold and her friendly personality caused her to be affectionately called "Aunt Sarah" by many who knew her. Mother served faithfully as an usher and on the Deaconess Ministry at the St. Matthew Baptist Church for many years until her health began to fail. She will be greatly missed!

Precious memories will remain forever with her family and friends, including her loving children: Delores (Joseph) Quattlebaum of Albany, NY, Alphonso Price of Jacksonville, FL, Waymond (Lillie) Price of Jacksonville, FL, Gloria (R. B.) Holmes of Tallahassee, FL, Lillie Price-Wesley of Ellicott City, MD; a stepson, Arthur Price of Punta Gorda, FL; two sisters Essie B. Thompson of Albany, NY and Theresa Crum of Jacksonville, FL; an especially devoted granddaughter, Georgette (Paul) Cooper; nine other beloved grandchildren; several great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends. We praise and thank God for his love, faithfulness, grace, peace and truth.
