He was the son of Thomas and Mary (Hunt) Bonney.

He married Elizabeth Bishop. She being the daughter of James Bishop.

He was named as one of the heads of families of the group which settled Pembroke. He was a leading citizen there, serving as surveyor of highways etc.

His will is recorded in Vol.10, pg. 347, Plymouth County, MA.
WILL OF JOHN BONNEY
In the name of God Amen, the twenty sixth day of June In the year of Our Lord 1738. I John Bonney of Pembroke in the county of Plymouth in the provence of the Massachusetts Bay in New England yeomen being weak in body, but of perfect mind and memory, Do make and Ordain this my last Will and Testament in the following manner and form.
First. I give unto my three sons John, Ichabod & Perez all those lands which I before disposed of to them by Deed
2. Item. I give unto my son Joseph Bonney Ten pounds in any Good pay to be paid him in some Convenient time after my Decease by my Executor hereafter named.
3. Item. I give unto my daughter Ruth five shillings besides what she has already had, to be paid by my Executor hereafter named.
4. Item. I give unto my Daughters Elizabeth, Deborah & Ann each of them fifteen pounds in any Good pay with what they have already received to be paid by my Executor hereafter named.
5. Item.I give unto my Grandson Samuel Parris three pounds in any Good pay, to be paid him when he shall arrive at the age of twenty one years by my Executor hereafter named.
Item. I give unto my Grand Daughters Abigail Parris and Sarah Parris each forty Shillings in any Good pay when they come of age by my Executor hereafter named.
6. Item. I give to my wife Elizabeth all my movable Estate not before disposed of, during her life, and the remainder if any there be, after her decease I give to my three daughters Elizabeth, Deborah and Ann to be equally divided between them. And Finaly I do hereby Constitute this my last will and Testament. Inwitness whereof I the said John Bonney to this my last will and Testament have set my hand and seal the day and year above written.

"I, the subscriber, Perez Bonney, the son of John Bonney, of Pembrook, having a mind to write an account of my predecessor, according to the best information that ever I had, I shall begin with my grandfather, Thomas Bonney, who came from Dover, in England, and was born about the year 1604, and married Mary Terry, but she died, and then he married Mary Hunt,[5] being as I have been told about 50 years old by whom he had, (Bonney, 1898, p. 7):[6]
