Graveside services for Joe Broyles Martin, 69, 814 Jason St., will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Carlsbad Cemetery. He died Dec. 3, 1986, in a local nursing home.
Martin was born July 21, 1917, in Muenster, Texas. He was raised in Texas and graduated from high school in Gainesville, Texas. He worked in the oil fields in Texas before moving to Carlsbad in 1947. He began his employment with U.S. Borax in 1947, and continued there until his retirement in 1967. He was an electrician and worked in construction after that, which included working for Union Carbide in Texas City, Texas, for 10 years. He retired from Union Carbide in 1980, and made Carlsbad his home since that time. He attended Bethel Baptist Church. He was a member of Elks Lodge #1558 in Carlsbad, and of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #643.
Survivors include his wife, Lila "Betty" Martin, Carlsbad; four sons, Teddy Joe Martin, Tucson, Ariz., Charles Douglas Martin, Hobbs, Derral Wayne Martin, Seminole, Texas, and Michael Jan Martin, Sugarland, Texas; one daughter, Virginia Carol Losli, Hillsboro, Ore.; one brother, Gene Martin, Odessa, Texas; five sisters, Dixie Lyle, Della Watkins, Bennie Sanders, Kate Mae Hunt, and Zelma Ruth Snow; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
