Zelma Ruth (Martin) Snow, 89, of Chandler, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 from Alzheimer's. She was born August 27, 1927, on the family farm near Gainesville, Texas, to Charley Magne Martin and Maggie Lucretia Driver. Zelma was the youngest in a family of ten children.
Zelma met the love of her life, Willie Ray (Bill) Snow, when she was just 14. He left for college, then WWII, and they fell in love by mail. They married on May 6, 1945, and enjoyed just shy of 72 years of the most remarkable marriage in the history of the world. Words cannot describe their love and commitment, rather than to say that Zel & Bill were two halves of a whole. She was so proud of their children, Carolyn Ruth West and husband Tim, Joe Ray Snow and wife Laura, Glenda Kay Snow, and Gary Neal Snow and wife Karen. In addition, Zel & Bill cherished 7 grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren. She and Bill were the last survivors of their big families, so have been considered heads of the Snow and Martin clans for many years. They cherished each of their many nieces and nephews and greats, and hosted many memorable family reunions.
While Zelma's primary legacy is LOVE, she made her mark in so many ways. She created a warm, beautiful and welcoming home, where she always declared, "the more the merrier," embracing others for a meal or a move-in! It always sparkled at holidays, as she possessed a creative, artistic flair. Dedicated to her husband, her family & friends, her church and community, civic contributions were too numerous to list. She passionately enjoyed music, flowers, hosting get-togethers, cooking, playing games and growing things. They traveled extensively and enjoyed RV camping. She was skilled in business, excelling as proprietor of florist and wedding businesses through the years. Zel made life fun for everybody. She enjoyed great love and success and a long and happy life filled with rich relationships with many close friends. She will always be remembered with great love and admiration by all who knew her.
