She was born in Halifax County May 19, 1942 the daughter of Pocahontas Long and the late James Gadis Long.
Mrs. Ashworth was of the Methodist faith and was formerly employed at Hodges Jewel Box for 40 years. She was a retired teller at Carter Bank and Trust.
In addition to her mother survivors include three sisters, Mary L. Francis and Alice N. Newby and husband Clifton, all of South Boston, and Shirley L. Morcom of Largo, Md.; one brother, James T. Long of Greensboro, N.C.; one niece, Tammy N. Dunn; two nephews, Allen Newby and Chris Long; two great-nieces; and three great-nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ashworth will be held at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Don Bryant officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home Wednesday, Dec. 8, from 7 to 8 p.m. and other times at the home of Mary Francis, 2041 Philpott Road, Lot 28, South Boston.
