Clarissa worked in the household of the Prophet Joseph Smith in her early years. The Reed family had joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when a neighbor by the name of Levi W. Hancock had converted the family to its docterine. While Clarissa was working for Joseph Smith, the Prophet played matchmaker, and convinced Levi that Clarissa was the girl for him. They were married March 29, 1833. They had seven children. Later they were divorced. She married Thomas Jones White in 1854. She had three more children, and died most likely from complications from childbirth. The inscription on her grave marker states "She lived a life of righteousness and died a saint."
