Edward Launer
Funeral services for Edward Launer, 93, who died in Vail-Stormont Hospital in Topeka, Kans., will be conducted at 4 p.m. Monday from the Darling Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Turner of St. Paul's Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Buena Vista Burial Park.
Survivors include a son, Harry, of Brownsville; three daughters, Mrs. Nellie Way and Mrs. Gladys Jeffries of Topeka and Mrs. Rose Laird of Ozawkie, Kans., a foster son, George L. Launer of Miami, Fla.; seven grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. His wife preceded him in death in 1939.
Mr. Launer was born in Alpnach, Switzerland, Aug. 21, 1869 and became a U. S. citizen March 22, 1900. He came to Valley Falls Kans. in 1884. In 1893 he made the race in the Cherokee Strip and homesteaded at Perry, Okla.
Ten years later he moved back to Valley Falls where he resided.
He retired in 1939 after farming and road building in the El Jardin area until 1922 when he moved his family to Brownsville.
He had been in Topeka two months visiting his daughters when he became critically ill.
He was a member of the Methodist Church.
Pallbearers will be Willard Bennett, August Miller, Hal Vandever, J. W. Cain, Gene Olson and Flynn Walker.
Honorary pallbearers will be M. L. Palmer, Worth Palmer, Jessie Dennell, A. F. Martinal, George Raker, Phil Bursl, Ralph Schuler, Cleve Boucher, Augustine Martinez, Manuel DeLeon, M. S. Edward Launer, 93, Brownsville, Tex., formerly of Valley Falls, who became ill while visiting his daughter, Mrs. Gladys Jeffries, Topeka, died in a Topeka hospital. Funeral services were at Brownsville. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Jeffries and Mrs. Nellie Way of Topeka, and Mrs. Rose Laird of Ozawkie; two sons, Harry Launer of Brownsville, and George Launer of Miami, Fla.: seven grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren.
