Patriot of the American Revolutionary War. He resided at Rochester, Ulster County, NY During the revolution. Darius Benjamin served 6 months as private soldier under Captain Benjamin Cartwright, 8 months as private soldier under Captain Hans Hardenburgh, and 1/2 month under Captain Schoonmakie. He engaged in the Battle of White Plains. According to the DAR papers of his great-great granddaughter Ursula Benjamin Ryan, she had been told by some of her "older relatives that at one time, during the American Revolution, Darius Benjamin acted as bodyguard for General George Washington."
