Kenneth Ricketts

A prayer service for Kenneth Ricketts, age 65, of Mobridge, South Dakota, will be at 7 PM, Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Kesling Funeral Home in Mobridge visitation will begin at 4 PM. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Kenneth passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at St. Alexius Hospital in Bismarck.

Kenneth Lyle Ricketts was born on June 9, 1944 to Donnafae (Wheeler) and Carl Ricketts in Ft. Dodge, IA. During his childhood his family moved to Ipswich, SD before moving to Mobridge.

Kenneth attended school in Mobridge and graduated from Mobridge High School in 1963. After graduation he joined the US Navy. He was known by his comrades as the "Ricochet Rabbit". He worked as an aircraft electrician stationed at San Diego, CA. during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge, he returned to Mobridge where he met Cathy Ries. They were married in 1971 in Van Nuys, CA. To this 20 year union four daughters were born. During his life in Mobridge, Kenny was employed as a mechanic at Koster's Skelly service station, a liquor salesman for Famous Brands, a construction worker for Scherle Sales, and at the Mobridge Dry Cleaners.

Kenny enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool, working on cars, golfing, camping with his family and having coffee with friends. He was an avid Nascar and NFL fan. His favorite team was the Chicago Bears. He enjoyed working on a stock car race crew in Aberdeen during the 70's. He looked forward to and loved visits from his grandchildren.

He is survived by his life mate, Cathy Ricketts of Mobridge, four daughters, Teri (Mike) Alleven of Sioux Falls, Jennifer (Chip) Thompson of Black Hawk, SD, Lindsey (Jon) Helm of Selby, Jami (Ross) Mattheis of Mobridge; grandchildren, Kelli Hoff, Miles, Margaret and Marlee Alleven, Brenna, Brooklyn and Briley Helm, Riley and Hunter Mattheis; his mother, Donnafae Vickmark of Sioux Falls, his step-mother, Delores Ricketts of Mobridge, his brother, Kit Ricketts of Parker, CO, his sister, Linda Diede of Ft. Collins, CO, and his half-sister, Angie Schlenker of Mobridge, and his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carl and his beloved pets, Boomer and Buddy.
