Velma was born in Oklahoma City, Okla., to the late Harry C. and Ollie Welch Pulliam. It was there she was raised and graduated from high school. On April 9, 1950, she married Rev. Bill Smith in Oklahoma City, living there until moving to Jacksboro, Texas in the mid 1960's. The couple served in many Baptist churches in Texas, including Whitney, Coolidge, and his home church of First Baptist in Mertens, where he served twice. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved nothing more then baking for her family.
Preceding her in death was her husband on Oct. 13, 2004; two sisters; and a brother.
Survivors include her children, Linda Smith and husband, Mike, of Coolidge, Billy Smith and wife, Karen, of Fort Smith, Ark., and Ronny Smith and wife, Jo Linda, of Spring; grandchildren, Tonya Ward, Misty Phillips, Joshua Smith, Jennifer Clem, Jamie Williams, Evan and Andrew Smith, Brandi Wetegrove, and Crystal Ybarra; twelve great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Bob Smith, of Houston.
