The funeral for Nannie Gallant Claybrooks, 89, of 1945 Roanoke Boulevard, Salem, who died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, will be held at noon Wednesday at Mayo Missionary Baptist Church, Martinsville with the Rev. Robert Smith officiating.
Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the church for a half hour before the service Wednesday, and other times at the home of Mozella Claybrooks at 1831 Carver Road, Martinsville.
Born June 25, 1914, in Patrick County, her parents were the late Fletcher Gallant and Mary Foster. Also preceding her in death were her husband, George Claybrooks; two sons, James Robert Claybrooks and Charles Claybrooks; and a daughter, Geneva Ford.
She retired from Spencer Penn Elementary School where she worked as a custodian for more than 30 years.
As a member of Mayo Missionary Baptist Church, she was in the Missionary Ministry, a member of the senior choir, a member of the Smith River Missionary Baptist Mass choir, a volunteer at the Horsepasture Fire Department and a member of American Legion Unit No. 78.
Surviving are one daughter, Mary Harmon of Cherry Hill, N.J.; two sons, George William Claybrooks of Detroit, Mich., and Frank Claybrooks of Easton, Pa.; one sister, Myrtle Grogan of Roanoke; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
