She was born on Feb. 10, 1921, in Broughton, the youngest child of Mack and Maude (Tate) Simmons. She married Williams Wayne Parsons on Feb. 15, 1941. They shared 58 years together before his death on March 5, 1999. Four children were born to the couple, a son, Billy Mack, who was born and died in 1943, Glenda Kay, who was killed in an automobile accident in 1970, Linda Lee and Debbie.
Silvetta was an avid genealogist. She loved gardening, crafts, home-making and she was devoted to her family. She was a member of the Methodist Church, belonged to the Samuel Elder chapter of the DAR, Southern Illinois Genealogy Society and the Illinois State Genealogy Society. For many years she was active in the affairs of her hometown of Broughton in a variety of capacities.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son and daughter; two sisters and four brothers.
She is survived by daughters Linda Parsons O'Hare and Debbie Parsons Mooney; and five granddaughters, Rachael, Molly, Caitlyn, Brenna and Libby Mooney. She also shared a loving relationship with her sisters- and brothers-in-law as well as with her nieces and nephews. Her family meant the world to her.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on tonight at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
The life celebration will also be held at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Saturday with burial immediately following at Gholson Cemetery in Broughton.
