Elinor Chaires Shuford, 88, Matriarch of the Shuford Family, died Monday, March 30, 2009. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. EDT Friday, April 3, 2009 at Abbey-Riposta Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Tallahassee Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to service. Mrs. Shuford was born in Chaires, Florida to T.G. and Rosa Chaires on May 31, 1920, the only daughter of four children. Her brothers referred to her as "Sister". She was a member of Chaires United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women. She was a multi-talented, tireless worker for her family, community and church. She loved and was loved by all. Survivors include her daughters: Jo (Ella) Shuford-Law, husband Richard, Jessie C. (Bill) Shuford-Hemberger, all of Tallahassee; and Edna (Billy) Shuford-Armstrong, of Montgomery, Ala.; step-son, Harvey D. (Danielle) Shuford of Tallahassee; step-daughter, Lillian Brownell, Gadsden, Ala.; grandchildren, Laura Watson, Shuford Armstrong and Jo Hutchison and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, D. N. Shuford and her granddaughter, Viviane Carter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Big Bend Hospice. 1723 Mahan Center Blvd, Tallahassee, FL 32308, or, Alzheimers Project of Tallahassee, 1700 N. Meridian Rd., Tallahassee, FL 32303.
