Opal was born in Cyril, Oklahoma, on March 18, 1931, to Charles Moses Brown and Susan (Buffer) Brown. After graduating from High School, she was married to James Hugh McKnight on May 3, 1952. Together they enjoyed a beautiful marriage of almost 58 years. Opal was a very loving, sweet, and outgoing person. She was a friend's friend. Opal was loved by all that knew her. Her favorite pastime was gardening and raising flowers. Another passion of Opal's was listening to Elvis Presley sing. She was of the Baptist Faith. Her beautiful smile and wonderful attitude will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Susan Brown; son Paul McKnight in November of 2009; sisters Lottie, Edith, and Margerie; and brothers Art, Henry, and David.
She is survived by her husband James Hugh McKnight of the home; daughter Lorrie McKnight of Tulsa, Oklahoma; son James D. McKnight of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; sisters Ellen Scott of Cyril, Oklahoma, and Geneva Harris of Cement, Oklahoma; grandchildren Justin McKnight of Tucson, Arizona, Jenna McKnight Quebedeux, and expectant great-grandson Baby Jack; other relatives and many, many friends.
Funeral service for Opal will be , at 10:00 A.M. in the Mobley-Dodson Funeral Service Chapel. Rev. Bill Sullivan will officiate. Burial will follow at 3:30 P.M. in the Celestial Gardens Cemetery in Cyril, Oklahoma. Visitation for Opal will be from 8:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.mobley-dodsonfuneralservice.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mobley-Dodson Funeral Service of Sand Springs, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Tranquility Hospice, 1815 East 15th, Tulsa, Oklahoma, 74104.
