Several of you asked for my references on my Peleg and Mary Pittman (dau.
of John & Mary Rowe Pittman) ROGERS (see below), John Ichabod Pittman's name and etc; I thought I would combine a lot of references in this one e-mail:
(1) I got the reference 1995 for John Ichabod Pittman from a desc. of his
named Lynne P. SELZER, 2306 Piedmont Ridge Court, Marietta, GA 30062,
through her ancestor Lucy Marshall (dau. of Rev. Daniel & Martha Stearns
MARSHALL of Windsor, CONN who the Pittmans were supposedly following from
Conn. to Richmond County , GA). She also sent me a copy from the National Soc.
of Colonial Dames 1915-1975, pub. 1976 (GA State Arch. Lib.,CS 61.H87
1991,pg.311,17th Cen. Colonial Ancestors) which said "Pittman, Thomas
(c1726-85) Virginia; m. Mary Rowe. Magistrate." (2) Why there are errors in the
amount of children: (a) I worked many years with Georgia C. Eberly of
Devon, PA, dau. of Mrs. W. H. Carothers, dec'd. Mrs. Carothers errorously
supplied both the DAR & the Elrod Pittman book with the 9 children for my Peleg & Mary Pittman ROGERS. I have over a 5 inch thick file of ref. on my Peleg
ROGERS. (also 1 on ROWES and 3 on PITTMANS). I have some evidence which
proves he is the Peleg ROGERS who was the son of Peleg ROGERS and Isabella
BRAND from RI and Edgecombe County , North Carolina.-copy of 1781 Henry County , Virginia marriage
Lic. of James & Martha Taylor PITTMAN compared with the Peleg's signature
1779 petition in Duplin County , Virginia (b) Confusing different GA Pelegs- In the
1805 Georgia Family Heads there was my (i) Peleg ROGERS, Jackson Cty. w.
Mary Pittman, d/o John (Peleg was bro. to Thomas) and (ii) Peleg Rogers,
Warren Cty. w. Winnifred Lane d/o Jesse and Winnifred Aycock Lange. (I also
can prove there were 2 Pelegs who were cousins-sons of bros. Job & my
Peleg-in North Carolina). (3)Evidence Peleg & Mary Pittman ROGERS children can be
found in (a) 1 July 1811, Ct. Rec. Baldwin County , GA letters of Admin. estate of
Peleg Rogers dec. be granted to George W. ROGERS and Robert McCrary etc;
(b)Book A, pg. 22, Baldwin County Courthouse, Milledgeville, GA & Book "B",
1807-1815 Baldwin County , GA pg. 82 Inventory of estate of Peleg ROGERS with
Geo. W. ROGERS & Robert McCrary (c) Superior Ct., Jones County , GA rec. 9
March 1816 has indenture betw. Mary Rogers, George W. Rogers, Cannon R. Rogers, and Robert McCrary of one part & Timothy L. Rogers 2nd part of 202 1/2 a (d) Deed BK "J", pg. 267 Jones County (made from Baldwin County ), GA, indenture
dated 12 Mar 1816 between Mary Rogers (widow,d. 1816 family bible), G. W.
Rogers (son, my ancestor), Cannon R. Rogers (son, died 1827 Rbt. McCrary
appt. guard. of orphans ), Timothy L. Rogers (son), and Robert McCrary
(dau. Grace T. husband) of the County of Baldwin and Jones on the one part & John Harvey of the County of Jones on the other part., rec. 18 Aug 1817. From 1807 Land Lottery: Lot 173 in Baldwin County to Mary Pittman, wid. of John of
Columbia County
I have pages of land, taxes and etc; which prove these are the ONLY adult
children and heirs of my Peleg ROGERS. I can also take Peleg and his lines
back to James ROGERS of the Increase. April

Jesse M. Lawrence sent me a copy of his descendants of my Mary Rowe and my
John PITTMAN (1726-1785 Richmond County ,GA). I was concerned because he has wrong desc. of their dau. my Mary Ann PITTMAN and her husband Peleg ROGERS (b.1747 Edgecombe County ,nc-d.15 May 1811 Baldwin County ,GA). My ancestor their son George Washington ROGERS (b. 14 May 1787 Richmond County ,GA-d. 8 Jan. 1845 Lafayette,MS) was the exec. of his father Peleg ROGERS will and therefore we know who the four children were. (1)Grace Theresa ROGERS (b.1784 Richmond County ,GA-d.1850/60 in Lowndes County ,MS) married 21 Feb 1803 Warren County ,GA to Robert Mc Crary (d.1859 Lowndes County ,MS). (2) My George Washington ROGERS married 23 Jan 1813 Baldwin County ,GA to Caroline Teresa WORSHAM (b.24 Nov 1795 Amelia County ,VA-d.16 June 1852 in Lafayette County ,MS, dau. of David & Martha Smith WORSHAM). (3) Cannon Rowe ROGERS (b.abt 1789 GA-d.1827 Baldwin County ,GA) married 19 Jan 1819 Putnam County ,GA to Martha C. MORRIS. (4) Timothy Lincoln ROGERS (b.15 Dec 1791 Baldwin County ,GA -d.1845 Aberdeen, Monroe, MS) married 21 Sep 1814 Baldwin County ,GA to Mary MILES (d.1869 Aberdeen,Monroe,MS).

In abt 1835 my George W. and Caroline Worsham ROGERS with Grace and Timothy and all of their children moved through Lowdnes County ,ALA and in 1838 moved into first Hinds Mississippi, and then 1839 to Neshoba MS, and bef 1845 moved to
Lafayette County ,MS where George and Caroline Worsham ROGERS died. Many of
the Pittman children and grandchildren moved with my George and Caroline
Worsham ROGERS to Mississippi.

Jesse M. Lawrence I think you got the wrong names for my ROGERS family
because there were at least two other Peleg ROGERS in GA at the same time
as mine or you got it from old sources (Rev. War records, books, and etc;)
that put all of those other ROGERS into our family. I assure you there was only
4 surviving adult children of Peleg and Mary Ann Pittman ROGERS which I
found through his will and land records.
