A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 5, at Chaney-Reager Funeral Home with William Jeffers officiating. Military rites will be by American Legion Post No. 20. Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery.
Mr. Martin was born on July 16, 1927 to Ryle C. Martin Sr. and Goldie (McIntosh) Martin in Crawford, Neb. Mike graduated from Bear Creek High School in Denver in 1945. He enlisted in the U.S. Merchant Marines and later in the U.S. Navy and served in Japan. He then enlisted in the
U.S. Air Force.
On June 26, 1954 he married Joann Blair in Sterling. He was the manager of Sherwin Williams paint store for several years. He went to Saudi Arabia to oversee the building of two amusement parks. Mike was a Wal-Mart greeter and enjoyed helping the elderly.
He enjoyed remodeling his home, gardening and fishing. He was a member of the VFW Post No. 3541, American Legion Post No. 20 and was a former member of the Masonic Lodge and a former City Council member.
Mr. Martin is survived by a son, Bill Martin of Sterling; a daughter, Ten Strohmeyer and husband Bryan of Sterling; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Stice of Cherokee, Okla.; and special friends, Devie, Sarah and Ash ley Miller and Peg Tennant, all of Sterling.He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kelly Martin; his wife, Joann in 1996; and two brothers, Ryle C. Martin Jr. and Donald M. Martin.
